Tennis Parents Special: Help From Leading Sports Psychologist Callum Gowling

Dear Tennis Parents, I totted up recently and our three children have played around 800* matches at tournaments. I know what attending tournaments with your child/children can be like. I know it can be rewarding, inspiring and joyful. I also know it can be stressful, challenging and frustrating. Ronan Keating once sang: Life is a Rollercoaster - he could just have easily have sang Life As A Tennis Parent is a Rollercoaster.

I also know that sports psychologists can help players thrive in what can be challenging situations (from apparent injustice, to third parties interfering, to dealing with things that inevitably go wrong in matches). But where I ask you, where is the help for parents from sports psychologists? If they can be such a massive help to players, can they be as big a help to tennis parents? Can a sports psychologist help you relish your role as a tennis parent?

I firmly believe the answer is YES! And Callum Gowling - who has collaborated with organisations like the LTA and ITF - is the sports psychologist who has kindly agreed to help. I hope this episode and its practical help and guidance will help you. I know it has helped me! It is an episode I will be re-listening to again and again…
